What is PRP?
PRP Therapy is a concentrated injection that is made by collecting your own blood and spinning it through a centrifuge in order to separate the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets into separate layers. The Platelet-Rich Plasma layer is the yellow layer that forms on top. Platelets are responsible for the MOST important phase of healing – the inflammatory phase. Inside of each platelet are many tiny granules. Contained within these granules are all of the important signaling compounds and molecules that help direct the body in how to go about healing.
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
The procedure typically takes a couple of hours, including preparation and recovery time. Performed safely in a medical office, PRP Therapy relieves pain without the risks of surgery, general anesthesia, hospital stays and without a prolonged recovery. In fact, most people return to their jobs or usual activities right after the procedure.
